Ibanez RG7621 Reviews
Ibanez RG7621

Please forgive any kind of errors or inaccuracy
regarding parts that might appear in this. I
don't know much about what kind of pickups or
tuning machines are on the guitar, but I can tell
you how it sounds, what it looks like, and how
well it plays.
The sound is amazing. It is the best sounding
guitar that I have ever owned, but not the best
one that I have played (the Parker fly is a great
guitar, just one string short for my tastes). The
other solid body electric guitars that I have
owned are a Squire strat, a Gibson Les Paul
studio, and a Washburn 5 string bass. I have had
no problems with any annoying buzz or excessive
feedback at all.
The features that contribute to the sound
are:
Two humbucking pickups- in my opinion, the
best pickup configuration.
Five way pickup selector- uses different
coils of the pickups in different polarities and
combinations. It gives you plenty of different
sounds to mess with.
String-through-body bridge- the feature I
was waiting for in a 7-string guitar.
Angled headstock joint- the way all
guitars should be made to get the best tone.
The rg7621 is big and black. There are no visible
flaws in the guitar, and the details that are
there (not many) are of great quality. The dot
inlays are very well done, and the mirror Ibanez
logo on the headstock is done very well.
The playability is great. I can get harmonic
squeals easily and reliably. I have not broken a
string on it yet. The neck is extremely
comfortable, but takes a little getting used to
because of the width of the thing. When I'm
playing it, it feels very natural, but when I see
other people playing it, it looks wide as hell.
The only modification that I have made to its
playability has been replacing the original
strings with a heavier set.
I had been looking at seven string guitars for
two years before I finally got this guitar in my
hands. It took six months for me to get it after
I ordered it through Woodall's Music in
Collinsville, Va. (the best guitar shop I have
ever been to). From the first time I saw a
picture Munkey and Head with their seven string
guitars, I wanted one of my own. However, it was
rather risky of me to invest $700 in a guitar I
had never played. When I ordered it, the rg7 was
the cheapest 7 string that could be bought. I am
definitely happy with the rg7, but now I would
say that the best entry-level 7-string guitars
available are the Schecter diamond series 7
strings. The RG7621 and RG7620 are more on the
mid-range level, while the Universe is the top of
the line. I am hoping to eventually get the
acoustic 7 string that Ibanez makes, but I am
hoping that Schecter might release one at a more
competitive price.
