HEAD & MUNKY
The boys who brought the 7-string BACK to rock!
Korn's Official Website
KoRn's new album, ISSUES, due out November 16th!!!
While many saw the 7-string as simply a tool for shredders, Head and Munky had very different ideas in mind. Their powerful low-end rhythm work in KORN is one of the most important reasons for the resurgence of the 7-string guitar.
These guys, literally, brought the 7-string back to rock & roll! In 1994, with twin 7-strings tuned to Low A, KORN found a new use for this instrument...to create devastating LOW riffs that pound you into submission! Over the years, their extensive use of effects pedals, multiple amps, multi-layered guitar textures, & recording techniques have lead to some of the most innovative sounds & tones in rhythm guitar work EVER!
Their sound has spawned a thousand imitators, but no one has come close. Some 7-string purists have written off KORN's music as "talentless." I have to disagree & say KORN is, without a doubt, one of the most original sounding rock bands to date. Nothing compares! Check out KORN's latest release, Follow The Leader, to see what all the hype is about! YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!
Guitars: Ibanez Universes, Custom-shop Ibanez RG7620s, Ibanez AJ307CE Acoustic. (In the studio, where endorsement restrictions are loosened, they also use Gibson Les Pauls, Fender Stratocasters, Jerry Jones Baritones & Sitars.)
Amps: Hughes & Kettner, Marshall, Mesa/Boogie, Bogner, Line 6, Rivera, Smokey Amps
Effects: You name it, they got it! However, they do express a fondness for Electro-Harmonix, Boss, Digitech, Dunlop, & vintage effects pedals.

KORN's GUITAR RIGS REVEALED!
Although, they use ALL this equipment from time to time, here's a rough idea of how each person sets up their rigs according to Guitar Shop Magazine's November 1998 & September 1999 issue.
Munky's Rig:
From a custom-shop Ibanez RG7 or Universe series 7-string, he goes through a HUGE series of pedals routed w/ Monster cables(in order from guitar):
Dunlop Wah
Dunlop Rotovibe
Digitech XP100 Whammy/Wah
DOD FX25 Envelope Filter
Prescription Electronics Outbox
Electro-Harmonix Big Muff
Electro-Harmonix Small Stone Phasers (2 each)
Ibanez Tube Screamer
Boss Pitchshifter
Jim Dunlop Univibe
Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress Flanger
Boss Digital Delay/Reverb
'70s-era Ibanez Chorus pedal
The signal then goes to an A/B switch to route to either a talkbox hooked up to a Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier OR to another A/B switch that routes to either a Line 6 Flextone HD (300-watt head) or another Triple Rectifier (clean or dirty channels). The Line 6 head is connected to 2 2X12 Mesa cabs (30-watt speakers); the Triple Rectifier head is connected to 2 4X12 Mesa cabs (same speakers).
Munky's Amp Settings: Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier. Bass 6.5-7, Mids 0, Treble 7-8, Gain 7, a dash of presence.
Head's Rig:
Also from a custom-shop Ibanez RG7 or Universe series 7-string, the signal goes through the folling pedals (in order from guitar):
Boss Chorus Ensemble

Boss Tremolo
Boss Digital Delay/Reverb
Digitech XP-100 Whammy/Wah
Dunlop Univibe
This signal goes to an A/B Box that switches between a Line 6 & a Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier for clean & distorted channels. Each amp feed 2 each Mesa 4X12 cabs.
Head's amp settings: Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier. Bass 10, Mids 3, Treble 5-6, Gain 10.
